A floor jack and a good set of jack stands are basic equipment for anyone who works on trucks, trailers, or other heavy vehicles.
But choosing them based only on a large tonnage number printed on the box can be misleading.

Can You Use Wood Blocks to Gain Height?
Improvised lifting arrangements can introduce instability.

Heavier trucks or specialized applications may justify a 4-ton or higher-capacity jack.

Buying extra capacity can provide useful margin, but capacity does not replace correct lifting technique.
